Obligatory Best of 2012 List

Obviously the most played out list of any music fan is the "Best Of..." list. Whether it's a list of our favorite records of a particular year or our favorite Johnny Cash songs, many of us feel the need to publicly reveal our favorites. I think we all hope to inspire someone to check out a particular item, or in reading somene else's list to be equally inspired to explore. With that in mind here are my favorite records of 2012.

Anquette: Respect lp Luke Skyywalker Records XR-103

I remember back in the day receiving a promo of the "janet reno" 12" and playing the crap out of it, much to the consternation of my friends and of fellow Miami Bass heads. But this is not bubble gum rap, this is a record by a talented rapper and lyricist who 'kept it real.' Though the record never took off nationally it was a huge local hit, and, after recently listening to the lp again, it seems a shame that Luke didn't do more to push it nationally. Miami produced some great female rappers, but for my money, Anquette was the best!
